As silence fell over the crowd,
the frail old man looked over his audience and with a wry smile
offered his suggestion for a profound theological statement that would
express the entire Christian message.  What he said was:  “Jesus loves
me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”

Hypocrite” is one of those words that gets thrown around a lot
(perhaps even moreso as we are about to enter an election year).  It
is most often used to expose the inconsistencies of one’s opponents.
It’s a word that Jesus used quite often when He talked to or about the
religious leaders of His day.

Probably one of the most difficult and frustrating experiences in
life is watching someone who you really care about heading for certain
disaster.

The times, they are a’changin.’”  Things have always changed and they
always will.  Some of us feel uncomfortable with many of the changes
taking place around us, especially when it seems that most of them
aren’t necessarily for the better.  Sometimes all of these changes
make us feel as if we no longer belong in the world of today as we
look back on “the good old days” when life was a lot less complicated.
 

God expects the people who are His own to live up to their name and
favored position, not in order to earn their status, but rather to
show the unbelieving world that the grace of God in Jesus Christ has
not been wasted on His people.

    Christian doctrines may at times appear to be lifeless and cold
pursuits in scholasticism.

Especially in our day and age, when sin abounds and is taken
so lightly, it is our responsibility as Christians to proclaim to all
the world, without apology, that sin is still sin, that it still
offends God, and that it still damns.
